Kovai Nagarathar Kalyanamalai (“KNK Matrimony”) is a matchmaking service for the Tamil Nagarathar community, run by Annaporani Ramanathan Trust. This policy explains what we collect, why, who can see it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to be read — if anything here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it.
For the purposes of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP), the Trust is the Data Fiduciary for your information. Our address is #45, Chettinad Heritage Centre, RS Puram, Coimbatore - 641002, Tamil Nadu, India.
What we collect
Your account. A phone number and a PIN. That is the whole login — we do not collect an email address, and we never store your PIN in a readable form; it is hashed, so nobody at KNK can see it. We can only reset it, never read it.
Your profile. What you enter in the registration steps: name, gender, date of birth, marital status, height, diet, kovil, pirivu, native place, star and raasi, birth time and place, education and occupation, workplace and city, income (which you may mark private), your present location, family details, two references, a short bio, your alliance preference, and your horoscope charts.
Photos and videos you upload, and the Aadhaar card images used for verification.
How you use the service. When you log in, which profiles you view, the requests you send and receive, and reports you make. We also keep technical records such as the browser you used and a one-way hash of your IP address — enough to spot misuse, not enough to track you elsewhere.
Aadhaar — how we handle it
We ask for an Aadhaar number and card image to verify that members are real people. This matters in a community matchmaking service, and we treat it as the most sensitive thing we hold.
Your Aadhaar number is never stored in a readable form. We keep two things: an irreversible fingerprint of it, used only to stop the same Aadhaar being registered twice, and an encrypted copy that can be opened only by our verification staff on our own servers. It is never shown to other members, never included in your profile, never put in a biodata PDF, and never sent to any AI service. Every single time a staff member views it, that view is recorded with their name and the time.
Who can see what
Other members see your profile details, photos and videos once you are verified. They do not see your Aadhaar, your present address, or the details of whoever created the profile — those are never shared with members under any circumstances.
Contact numbers are released only when two members connect — that is, when one sends a request and the other accepts. For women’s profiles this is absolute and enforced by the system itself: a phone number, a reference’s number or a creator’s number cannot be released before an accepted connection, whatever anyone does. Men may choose to keep their contact private in the same way. If you later remove a connection, contact details become private again for both of you.
Our staff see what their role requires — a verifier sees the documents needed to verify, and so on. Staff actions on a profile are logged. If you ask us for help, a support staff member may need to open your account to see what you are seeing; that is recorded, and analytics are switched off while it happens so your usage is not mixed up with theirs.
Nobody else. We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not give it to other matrimony services.
Where your data is kept, and who helps us run the service
Your profile, photos, documents and account live in a database and file storage hosted in Mumbai, India (Supabase). Photos and documents are in private storage — they are never on a public web address, and are shown through short-lived links that expire.
The following companies process limited data on our behalf:
- Supabase (Mumbai, India) — the database, file storage and login system.
- Vercel — hosts the website.
- Google (Gemini) — only if you use the optional “Fill from a biodata sheet” feature. See the next section.
- PostHog (European Union) and Microsoft Clarity (United States) — usage measurement. They receive which screens are opened and which steps are completed, never your profile content, photos, documents, Aadhaar, PIN or phone number. Clarity runs with strict masking, so on-screen text and images are not captured.
- Sentry — records technical errors so we can fix them.
- Cloudflare — may be used to check that a login is a person and not an automated script.
The “Fill from a biodata sheet” feature
When creating a profile you may optionally upload a photo or PDF of an existing biodata or horoscope sheet so the form fills itself in. If you do, that document is sent to Google’s Gemini service to be read, and the details it finds are shown to you for checking before anything is saved.
This is entirely optional — you can always type your details yourself, and nothing is saved until you confirm it. The uploaded file is not stored by us: it is read and discarded within the same request. The feature refuses identity documents, and Aadhaar is never sent to it.
How long we keep your data
While your profile is active, we keep it so the service works. If you close your profile or your account, we delete your personal data within 12 months. We keep it for that period so that we can restore an account closed by mistake, and deal with any complaint or report made before you left. You can ask us to delete it sooner — see below.
A small number of records may be kept longer where the law requires it, or where they are needed to resolve an ongoing dispute.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it is used;
- correct anything that is wrong, incomplete or out of date;
- delete your data when it is no longer needed;
- name someone who may exercise these rights for you if you are unable to;
- raise a complaint about how we have handled your data.
Write to help@kovainagaratharkalyanamalai.com and we will respond. We may need to confirm your identity first, so that nobody else can make a request in your name. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Keeping your data safe
Access is restricted by role, so staff see only what their work requires. Aadhaar numbers are encrypted, PINs are hashed, documents and photos sit in private storage, and repeated wrong PIN attempts lock an account temporarily. No system can promise perfect security, but if a breach ever affects your data we will tell you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
Children
This service is for adults seeking marriage. You must be 18 or older to register, and the registration form will not accept a date of birth that makes you younger. We do not knowingly keep data about children.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be told to you in the app.
